"Reading the Gospels Through Lent" is a simple plan to read all four Gospels during the season of Lent. It follows largely in Biblical order with a few modifications:
A Note on Bible Translations
The links above will take you to the assigned readings of the day using the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible, which is the one we use at church on Sunday mornings. However, on those linked pages you will find a drop-down menu that allows you easy access to an exhaustive list of other translations. You are welcome to read any translation you would like. You will find "The Message" to be the most contemporary version (more of a paraphrase, really, than a translation); the New International Version is a good translation that includes helpful section headings. Try different translations and find one you like!
Prayer should be an important part of your Lenten discipline. The links to the weeks above will take you to the readings placed in the context of Daily Devotions from The Book of Common Prayer. You might consider making it your discipline to read either in the mornings or the evening; both are included in the Daily Devotions and you can say one or both. You will also find prayers for the close of the day.
Should you be looking for something meatier, you can try saying Morning and/or Evening Prayer (also known as the Daily Office). Below you will find links to The Mission of St. Clare, a website that facilitates the discipline of daily prayer. The services provided by The Mission of St. Clare come from The Book of Common Prayer and include music if you care to use it. These services can be said alone of with others; a priest is not required!
Of course, you are always welcome to say the services directly out of your Prayer Book. Morning Prayer begins at p. 75, Evening Prayer begins at p. 115 and Compline (a short and lovely service for the close of the day) begins at p. 127. You will find an online version of the Prayer Book at BCPOnline.org.
